Your Christmas Shopping List – You’re Welcome

Christmas Shopping List

Getting your list together for the big Christmas shop? A new study has revealed as many as eight in ten Brits (80 percent) will neglect to put something CRUCIAL in their trolley.

Loo paper (19 percent) emerged as the most forgotten item, while batteries (18 percent), washing up liquid (17 percent) Sellotape (16 percent) and candles (14 percent) also highly likely to escape the nation’s minds.

Tin foil, cranberry sauce, soft drinks and mincemeat are also often left behind, as is toilet paper, gin, wine and Christmas crackers – with an average of 12 items being forgotten from the Christmas shop every year.

The survey, by Just Eat, found 79 percent of us find organising Christmas stressful, with a third so stressed they often feel like cancelling the whole thing.

And forgetting items from the “big shop” adds to the anxiety, with 28 percent saying missing items causes rows between them and their partner.

In fact, over half of us (56 percent) only realise they’ve run out of things at the very moment they need it, meaning hosts are relying on the convenience of speedy delivery from apps like Just Eat to top-up their shop (17 percent).

Amy Heather, Director of Partnerships at Just Eat says “The pressure of hosting Christmas can be all-encompassing when there is so much to do, get, cook, or remember. If you’ve forgotten something when shopping, or simply run out of that essential item, there’s no need to venture out in the cold or navigate busy supermarket aisles. Just Eat is on hand to deliver whatever groceries you need in these moments, so you can spend more time doing what you love this festive season.”

There’s no wonder hosts feel the pressure at Christmas as they seemingly can’t rely on their friends and family to pop to the shops on their behalf, with over half (52 percent) having to do Christmas grocery shopping by themselves, and one in 10 (13 percent) admitting to even shopping at midnight to beat the crowds.

Further fuelling the pressure of hosting is having people turn up unannounced – something half (68 percent) of us confess to hating.

In the moments where hosts find themselves in need of something last minute this Christmas, Just Eat can ease some of the stress with speedy delivery in as little as 30 minutes. From festive staples to basic essentials, customers can order their forgotten festive favourites from a range of popular supermarkets, including Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, ASDA and Co-Op.
